Your consultation with Dr. Bale at our practice in Russellville, AR, is the first step in the dental implant process. Dr. Bale will perform a complete oral examination, review your health history, and create a personalized treatment plan. During your consultation, anesthesia options (such as IV sedation) will also be discussed. Oral surgeons, such as Dr. Brown, are trained in the administration of anesthesia and sedation and will determine the best option for you. We encourage you to review our Anesthesia Options page to learn about these options.
Your consultation is an opportunity for you to ask questions about how dental implants work and to express any concerns you may have. If necessary, additional imaging may be taken. On the day of your consultation, we will send you home with pre- and post-operative instructions. For a smooth recovery and to reduce the risk of complications, it is important that you review these instructions carefully.
The day of your surgery begins with ample time for you have any remaining questions answered so you feel completely at ease. When it’s time, the anesthesia selected during your consultation is administered. Dr. Bale will place the titanium implant post into the jaw. Once the implant has been placed, the gums are stitched closed. After the procedure, you will rest until the anesthesia wears off. Your designated driver will drive you home.
Over the next few weeks, as the implant post fuses with your jaw bone, your crown will be custom-made by your restorative dentist. Once the post has successfully integrated with the bone under your gums, the crown will be placed on top of the post and your treatment will be complete.
Many times, if you are having a tooth extraction, you can receive a dental implant right after the procedure. This immediately preserves bone loss and oral function at the location of the extracted tooth.
